Contemporary Fashion
Narrated by Dr. Valerie Steele, Director & Chief Curator for the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology
Today, New York City continues to be a global fashion capital, due in part to its diversity, cultural richness, and financial strength. As in the past, immigration continues to contribute to fashion’s labor force, entrepreneurship, and creative leadership. Hip-hop continues to influence styles for men and women, as seen for example in Gucci’s alliance with Dapper Dan of Harlem which demonstrates how sportswear, street style, and luxury increasingly intersect.
